Nadim and The Magic Keris

Let the kids learn a little bit about the history of Singapore but in a fun and interactive manner. Nadim, a charming boy who lives in old Singapore, has lost his key and needs your help to find it. Journey with him and his friends through neighbourhoods like Bukit Panjang, Tannah Merah and Istana Kampong Glam. Become one with the past through old stories and lively Malay songs.

 

Learning Forest Tour

Who wants to walk among giants? We’re not talking literally of course but jaws are sure to drop when you take your kids on a walk amongst a collection of some of the tallest tree species in Southeast Asia. The Botanic Gardens’ Learning Forest Tour consists of trekking on boardwalks and elevated walkways and exploring several different habitats in the course of an hour. Be sure to arrive 15 minutes before each tour to get a spot (nearest entrance: Tyersall Gate).

 

Stories in Art: Wolves in the Walls

National Gallery never disappoints with its vast offerings of storytelling and arts and crafts sessions. Passionate storyteller, Kamini Ramachandran, is excited to narrate a classic tale into an immersive experience. Taking inspiration from Wandering in Black and White, an installation seeped in charcoal, Kamini will take little ones deep into a land filled with whispers, footsteps and shadows. Bring along your favourite soft toy to make it even more special. Not advised for kids under 6 years.

 

Pirates AHOY! Kids Bounce Festival Singapore

For some reason little ones love anything to do with Pirates, maybe it’s the treasure bit.  Lucky for you, Oasis Terraces has organized a super duper treasure hunt for the entire family. Participants will have to complete a variety of fun and challenging tasks. Did we mention there’s also slime making!

 

Day Tour at Fort Siloso

One of the must do’s during school break is to venture out to Sentosa for there’s sure to be something fun cooking.  And lo and behold we’ve got a tour of Singapore’s only preserved fort ready and waiting. Get in on the action and check out WWII memorabilia, including the largest collection of coastal guns. Follow passionate guides as they reconstruct exciting pieces of history. Learn about the Japanese invasion and final surrender through interactive zones in the revamped Surrender Chambers.

 

Chasing Dreams: Shopping in Early Singapore

Parents, we had you at shopping didn’t we? Hold out your disappointment though because The National Library of Singapore’s very first family programme offers an educational insight to our Little Red Dot’s early shopping scene. Kids (aged 7-12 years) will also get the chance to participate in a workshop where they’ll get to understand the power of advertising through several hands-on activities. Spend precious time with your kid in this fun and interactive session.

 

Kids Percussion Course / Drum Jam Session Preview

Granted, this will be one of the few times kids will be encouraged to bang the drums as loud as they want! If you’ve got a kid between 5-10 years who has wanted to pick up a percussion instrument, now’s your chance to test their enthusiasm. Ritmo studio is offering a free trial session where kids are invited to test out a range of percussion instruments before they decide to sign up for the 7-session course. Priority will be given to 1st time attendees.

 

4CS of Enhancing Parent-Child Relationship

Kids are a handful lot for sure, which is why parents worldwide are grateful for words of wisdom. In this case, speaker Terry Ng, parent to 2 teenagers and equipped with her Counselling and Psychology Diploma, wants to dole out some sound advice on how to continue to maintain a successful relationship with your kids. During her first session, she will cover “Care” and “Communication.”  If she wins you over during this one, be sure to catch her next one (6 October) where she will give the lowdown on “Contribution” and “Coaching.”
