Learn to Swim or Swim to Play: That is the Question

Singaporeans are spoilt for choice when it comes to cooling down on a hot day or a cool day or an overcast day. There are pools galore both public and private. And since learning to swim is one of those few basic skills which combine survival instinct with pure fun, it would be a waste for you or your kids to not learn it given the chance. So here we bring you the lowdown on the most convenient and comprehensive swimming complexes and swim schools to find baby swimming lessons, toddler swimming lessons and swimming lessons for kids. Whether you want to sign up for a lesson or simply indulge in a little pool play, you can take your pick!

Swimming Complexes

Jurong West Aquatic Centre

Jurong West Aquatic Centre’s huge Savannah – themed water play area offers 2 smaller slides for the young ones and a 3-storey high tube slide for the more fearless older children.  Also, two 50-meter pools are on site, one for teaching and training purposes and another acting as a competition pool.  Did I forget to mention there’s a lazy river? That’s right parents, Christmas has come early this year.

Jurong East Swimming Complex

This complex has everything to offer that its Jurong West counterpart does, but on a bigger scale.  You can borrow ring floats for a nominal fee and hit the wave pool or lazy river for pretty much the rest of eternity, or the end of closing anyway.  Race your friends on the 3 different slides if you’re not feeling particularly lazy.  Grab a bite to eat at KFC or Pizza Hut right above the complex if you’re feeling extra hungry.

OCBC Aquatic Centre

For those water birds looking for something more serious than tube slides, head on to the OCBC Aquatic Centre.  Built to meet international standards, this centre caters as a training ground for elite athletes and on off days provides fun-filled water based activities to the general public.  Its surf pool will be sure to bring out the inner surfer in you. Just aim for the OCBC Aquatic Centre where there are not one but two INDOOR 50-meter swimming pools.

Pasir Ris Swimming Complex

The East is racking up swimming complexes like it’s nobody’s business. Where OCBC is more for the serious swimmers, Pasir Ris is sure to score more points on the fun scale. Not only does it come equipped with one competition pool, one teaching pool, two slides, 1 catchment pool, one wading pool and a Jacuzzi but these features are all environmentally friendly and energy-saving.  Aren’t you the spoilt ones!

Choa Chu Kang Swimming Complex

The North is not one to be left behind.  Even though Choa Chu Kang Swimming Complex is on a smaller scale and doesn’t have as many amenities as the previous water escapes, it is a haven for young toddlers who will have a blast running around in the huge water play space, which is blissfully sheltered for the most part. We haven’t forgotten your older offspring who can seek their contentment riding the waves in the wave pool, meandering on their backs in the lazy river or get their thrills on sliding down the 3-storey spiraling closed tube.
