Addressing a much-needed gap in the kids food market, EYEYAH! The homegrown edutainment company, has launched its first healthy eating focused pop-up in Parkway Parade, East Singapore: EYEYAH x Maki-San.
The creatively-driven pop-up concept is a collaboration with sushi chain Maki-San, the extremely successful sushi chain with a ‘Do-It-Yourself’ approach where customers can get Maki rolls custom-made with their choice of fresh ingredients.
The EYEYAH! pop-up is located in Parkway Parade, where the space has been completely transformed with EYEYAH! signature bright, colourful and educational graphics, and a new menu has been created especially for children.
Every touch-point has been thoughtfully designed to teach children something about healthy eating, in the highly engaging subversive way that the edutainment brand is known for. Graphic artworks by local artists cover the walls. The detailed ‘Las Veges’ illustration by local artist HelloPingu depicts a world made of vegetables, complete with vegetable characters. Adeline Tan’s illustration celebrates famous food inventors and invites diners to match the inventor to the illustration, hidden details meticulously weaved into the characters provide the clues.
The menu itself has been curated with a healthy dietary approach providing a mix of fresh protein, carbohydrates, vegetables and grains. Each of the six newly designed makis has its own graphic illustration to champion them as personalities and reinforce their healthy ingredients. The “Rainbow Roll” is packed with multi-coloured vegetables, the “PSLE Buster” consists of brain boosting superfoods and “The Bomb!” is a spicy explosion in the mouth.
Each roll comes with a free custom-designed activity sheet. The coming weeks will see a program of interactive storytelling sessions and workshops, such as ‘vegetable soup’ by Roger Jenkins and ‘sushi making for kids’ which will invite kids to make their own sushi and learn about the benefits of the ingredients throughout the workshop.
Says Tanya Wilson, EYEYAH! Founder; “As a parent it can be a challenge not only to find affordable and healthy family-friendly eating options, but also to get children to eat an array of vegetables. To talk to kids about healthy eating we’ve designed a super fun immersive food-themed environment and a program to engage them in the creative process of making their own food and learning about the ingredients along the way. A child who may previously have dismissed vegetables may start to see them from a new perspective and begin eating them.”
Says Alvin Tan – Director, Maki-San; “There are many families who regularly visit our outlets and this collaboration with EYEYAH! enables us to engage them in a unique way by really adding value and making their experience so much more than a meal. We are piloting the concept in Parkway Parade and will look into rolling it out in other outlets and even as a stand-alone ‘EYEYAH! Café’ concept.”
The new kids menu will also be available through online delivery services, Food Panda, Grab and Deliveroo. The first public workshop will be on Saturday 19 October with a free healthy eating themed interactive storytelling session by Roger Jenkins.
Storytelling and sushi workshops weekly, from Saturday 26 October. For details please visit EYEYAH on Facebook.
